Robbery suspect Aliyu Sani, 19, has been arrested by Katsina Police after he allegedly chased a victim with a toy pistol during an attempted robbery in Kofar Sauri.
The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old man, identified as Aliyu Sani, over alleged impersonation and attempted robbery involving a toy pistol in Katsina metropolis.
The Command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, August 31, 2026.
According to the police, the incident occurred on August 22, 2026, after information was received at about 7:00 p.m. that the suspect was allegedly chasing a yet-to-be-identified person while pointing what appeared to be a pistol at the victim in an attempt to rob him.
Police operatives, working in collaboration with members of the local vigilante group, swiftly responded to the report and arrested the suspect at about 8:00 p.m. at Kofar Sauri in Katsina.
A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a black toy pistol, which police said was allegedly used to intimidate the victim during the attempted robbery.
The police said the suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation during preliminary interrogation regarding how he obtained the recovered exhibit.
Sadiq-Aliyu said the suspect remained in police custody while investigations continued to establish further details surrounding the alleged offences.
The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, CP Ali Umar-Fage, commended members of the community and the local vigilante group for their vigilance and cooperation, which contributed to the swift arrest.
Umar-Fage urged residents to remain alert and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
He stressed that sustained collaboration between security agencies, vigilante groups and members of the public remained essential to tackling robbery and other forms of criminality across Katsina State.
