A fatal crash on the Bida-Kutigi Road in Niger State has claimed seven lives and injured seven others, with 18 people involved in the collision.
Seven people have been killed and seven others injured in a fatal crash involving a Mazda vehicle and a Toyota Sienna bus along the Bida-Kutigi Road in Niger State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident, which occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Shebe Village, a few kilometres from Kutigi town.
The FRSC Niger Sector Commander, Corps Commander Aishatu Sa’adu, said 18 people were involved in the collision. Seven victims died at the scene, seven others sustained injuries of varying degrees, while four people escaped without injuries.
According to reports, the Mazda was travelling from Minna towards Mokwa when it collided with the Sienna, which was travelling from Lagos towards Minna. The collision occurred around a blind corner at Shebe Village.
The injured victims were evacuated to Kutigi General Hospital for medical treatment, while the remains of those who died were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary, the FRSC said.
Reports indicate that seven occupants of the Mazda died in the crash, while a teenage girl was reportedly the only survivor from that vehicle. The Sienna was also involved in the collision, with its occupants among those taken for medical attention.
The identities of the deceased and injured victims had not been officially released at the time of reporting.
The incident has renewed concerns about road safety along the Bida-Kutigi corridor, where blind corners and other road conditions can increase the risk of serious collisions. The FRSC is expected to establish the precise circumstances surrounding the crash as further investigations continue.
The crash comes amid broader road-safety concerns in Niger State. Earlier in August, the state FRSC command reported another fatal collision along the Enagi-Mokwa Road that left 15 travellers dead and 25 injured, attributing that incident to overspeeding and wrongful overtaking.
