Wike has rejected reports that he is lobbying to become Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, while reaffirming his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in Rivers State and the FCT.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports that he is lobbying to become Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike described the reports as false in a statement issued on Monday, August 10, 2026, by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, in Abuja.
Reports had listed Wike among prominent politicians and government officials allegedly lobbying for, or being considered for, the position of Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
Reacting to the reports, Wike said he had never discussed either the leadership or membership of the campaign council with anyone.
“I did not at any time discuss leadership or even membership of the PCC with anyone,” the minister said.
Despite denying interest in a formal role within the campaign structure, Wike reiterated his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The FCT minister said he did not need to occupy the position of Director-General, or even become a member of the Presidential Campaign Council, to contribute to Tinubu’s electoral success.
Wike said he would continue to support the President and work toward securing a strong electoral performance for him in both Rivers State and the FCT.
“I will ensure that Tinubu wins with wide margins in Rivers and the FCT,” he said.
Wike also disclosed that he was currently outside Nigeria, describing his trip as a period of rest after more than 30 days spent inaugurating completed projects and inspecting ongoing projects in the FCT.
He said his attention would return to the delivery of his ministerial mandate when he comes back to Nigeria, with particular emphasis on projects expected to be commissioned in December and January.
“When I return, our focus will be the continuous delivery of our mandate in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and to further enhance his electoral fortune in Rivers and the FCT,” Wike said.
The minister’s comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with parties and political actors beginning to position themselves for the campaign season.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and a prominent figure in Nigeria’s political landscape, has consistently expressed support for Tinubu despite remaining associated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His latest statement makes clear that, regardless of whether he holds a formal position in the APC campaign structure, he intends to play an active role in supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid in Rivers State and the FCT.
