President Bola Tinubu has welcomed Nigeria’s admission into the World Energy Council, describing it as a landmark achievement that strengthens the country’s role in shaping global energy policy.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed Nigeria’s formal admission as the newest National Member Committee of the World Energy Council (WEC), describing the development as a significant milestone that reflects growing international confidence in the country’s energy reforms and leadership across Africa.
In a statement, the President said Nigeria’s membership of the century-old global organisation, which comprises more than 100 countries, will strengthen the nation’s role in shaping global discussions on energy security, energy equity and sustainability.
Tinubu also congratulated the inaugural leadership of WEC Nigeria, led by Mr. Abdulrazaq Isa as Chairman and Mr. Bala Wunti as Chief Executive Officer, as well as members of the newly constituted Board drawn from the energy industry, regulatory agencies, financial institutions, academia, industry associations and the Future Energy Leaders community.
The President described Abdulrazaq Isa as a distinguished patriot and visionary industrialist whose investments in indigenous refining and industrial energy have expanded opportunities for Nigerian enterprise.
He also praised Bala Wunti as one of Nigeria’s foremost energy strategists, noting that his more than three decades of service have been characterised by integrity, strategic leadership and reforms that enhanced national revenue generation while boosting investor confidence in the energy sector.
According to Tinubu, the composition of the inaugural Board brings together experienced industry leaders, regulators, finance professionals and young energy experts, providing the balance, neutrality and credibility required to advance WEC Nigeria’s objectives.
President Tinubu said Nigeria’s admission into the World Energy Council goes beyond membership, describing it as an opportunity for the country to influence international energy policies and champion Africa’s interests.
“Nigeria has joined the World Energy Council to lead, not just participate – to ensure Africa’s voice shapes global energy decisions,” the President said.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting WEC Nigeria as a neutral, technology-agnostic platform for policy dialogue, investment mobilisation and innovation.
The President also pledged Nigeria’s continued collaboration with the World Energy Council headquarters in London and its global community to promote secure, affordable and sustainable energy solutions.
Tinubu wished the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and members of the inaugural Board success in what he described as a historic national assignment that will strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global energy landscape.
