The Accord Party has urged Osun voters to re-elect Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 15 governorship election, citing his administration’s performance while calling for a free, fair and peaceful poll.
OSUN – The national leadership of the Accord Party has endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in office, urging eligible voters in Osun State to support his re-election in the August 15 governorship election.
Speaking at a news conference in Abuja on Friday, the National Chairman of Accord, Maxwell Mgbudem, said the governor’s achievements over the past three and a half years justified another mandate from the electorate.
According to Mgbudem, Adeleke’s administration has delivered notable improvements in infrastructure and governance, making him deserving of a second term.
The Accord chairman also criticised the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, over the recent freezing of Osun State’s bank accounts.
Mgbudem alleged that the action was intended to weaken the operations of the state government and reduce Governor Adeleke’s electoral prospects.
He further accused security operatives of allegedly harassing members of the Accord Party in Osun State.
Despite the criticism, Mgbudem commended President Bola Tinubu for directing that the state’s bank accounts be unfrozen, describing the intervention as timely.
The party also appealed to the President and the Inspector-General of Police to facilitate the release of about 60 detained Accord members across Abuja, Osun and Nasarawa states, saying the move would help ease political tension ahead of the election.
Mgbudem urged Osun residents to come out in large numbers to vote for Adeleke and safeguard their votes during the election.
“Having done well in his first term, Adeleke deserves a second term to usher in better, greater and more prosperous development in Osun State,” he said.
He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a transparent, free and fair governorship election, while urging security agencies to remain professional, impartial and non-partisan throughout the electoral process.
According to him, the people of Osun should be allowed to freely exercise their democratic rights without intimidation or interference.
