Killings in Akpachi Village and Otukpo-Nobi have drawn condemnation from Benue PDP governorship candidate Michael Aondoakaa, who is demanding urgent security action and justice for the victims.
Benue State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Chief Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), has condemned the killings in Akpachi Village and the Otukpo-Nobi community in Otukpo Local Government Area, describing the attacks as barbaric and calling for urgent action to end the bloodshed.
Aondoakaa’s position was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by his Media Assistant, Mr. James Ian, and made available to journalists in Makurdi.
The former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice described the attacks, reportedly carried out by suspected armed herders, as horrific, unacceptable and a direct assault on innocent residents.
According to him, the attackers invaded Akpachi Village between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. while residents were asleep, killing several people.
Aondoakaa argued that the attacks should not be viewed as ordinary criminal acts but as deliberate acts of terrorism against peaceful Benue communities living on their ancestral land.
He extended his condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Akpachi and Otukpo-Nobi communities, and the entire Otukpo Local Government Area over the loss of lives.
The PDP governorship candidate said the latest violence underscores the continued vulnerability of communities across Benue State, where repeated attacks have led to loss of lives, displacement of residents and disruption of farming activities.
He stressed that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government and called for urgent and decisive measures to stop the persistent attacks.
Aondoakaa urged the government to strengthen security operations in vulnerable communities, improve intelligence gathering, deploy adequate security personnel to identified flashpoints and ensure that those responsible for the attacks are arrested and prosecuted.
The former justice minister maintained that the people of Benue deserve more than condolences after every tragedy, insisting that those behind the attacks must be brought to justice.
He also expressed solidarity with the affected communities and called for renewed commitment by all stakeholders to protect lives and restore lasting peace across Benue State.
