Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University has executed a major disciplinary purge, dismissing prominent professors and administrative staff caught in severe ethical misconduct.
The management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, has taken a decisive and uncompromising stance against institutional corruption by dismissing five prominent staff members found guilty of severe ethical misconduct.
In an official statement released on Sunday in Awka by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze, the institution revealed that the radical purge was finalized during the 122nd meeting of the university’s Governing Council held on Friday, June 12, 2026.
The high-level disciplinary panel reviewed extensive evidence before ordering the immediate termination of the affected personnel, who were found culpable of weaponizing their academic and administrative positions to execute vile acts of sexual abuse, harassment, intimidation, and financial extortion against vulnerable students.
The high-profile casualties of this sweeping anti-graft exercise include Professor C.C. Nwabachili, the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Professor Chike Osegbue from the Department of Political Science within the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The hammer of justice also fell heavily upon the Uli Campus of the university, resulting in the dismissal of Dr. I.H. Iheukwumere and Mr. Emeka Nwabunnia, both lecturers within the Department of Microbiology under the Faculty of Natural Sciences. In addition to the academic staff, the institution terminated the appointment of Mrs. Ifeoma Kakulu, a Principal Assistant Registrar who was actively serving as the Examination Officer of the Faculty of Law in the Examinations Unit during the timeframe the criminal infractions were committed.
Dr. Madubueze emphasized that this severe disciplinary action underscores the university’s absolute resolve to preserve its ethical benchmarks and maintain unyielding public confidence in its administrative and grading processes.
The Governing Council reaffirmed its zero-tolerance position on any behavior that tarnishes the academic reputation of the premier institution, issuing a stern warning to all remaining employees that any further acts of exploitation will meet the same aggressive termination.
By cleaning its ranks of predatory elements, the university high command has pledged to fortify a safe, fully transparent, and forward-thinking academic environment that aligns with the broader state vision of building a highly accountable university for future generations.
