In a major move to streamline operations, the new AIG Zone 2, Olohundare Jimoh, has banned case transfers from state commands and announced the creation of seven new police divisions in Lagos.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 Headquarters, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, has introduced a series of landmark reforms aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and tightening security across Lagos and Ogun states.
The AIG unveiled these initiatives during a courtesy visit to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos House, Alausa, on Monday.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Zone 2 Command spokesperson, DSP Gbenga Afolayan, Jimoh – who recently assumed leadership of the zone – formally introduced himself to the Governor alongside the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Tijani.
The AIG announced significant structural changes designed to eliminate bureaucracy and bring security closer to the grassroots:
Ban on Case Transfers: In a move to improve service delivery, Jimoh has placed a total ban on the transfer of cases from state commands (Lagos and Ogun) to the Zonal Headquarters. This is intended to ensure that state commands take full responsibility for their investigations and reduce the burden on complainants.
Seven New Divisions: Following recommendations made during his previous tenure as Lagos CP, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, has approved the creation of seven additional police divisional headquarters within Lagos State.
Jimoh expressed deep gratitude to the Lagos State Government for its consistent provision of logistics and welfare support. He noted that these contributions have been pivotal in the zone’s ability to sustain peace and reduce criminality in the region.
“Some of the achievements recorded within the zone have contributed significantly to reducing crime while sustaining public safety across Lagos and Ogun,” the AIG stated, reaffirming his commitment to maintaining law and order.
Governor Sanwo-Olu welcomed the AIG’s posting as a “homecoming,” citing Jimoh’s previous successful track record as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos. The Governor praised the newly unveiled reforms, particularly the addition of new divisions.
“The development will bring policing closer to the people and strengthen public confidence in the police,” Sanwo-Olu remarked. He assured the AIG of the state’s unwavering cooperation in upgrading the security architecture to ensure safer communities for all residents.
The visit marks a strategic alignment between the Nigeria Police Force and the Lagos State Government as they prepare for the security challenges of the 2026/2027 political cycle.
