The Kebbi State Police Command has detained a 25-year-old suspect, Idrisu Musa, for the gruesome cutlass attack that claimed the lives of his elder brother and sister-in-law in Jega LGA.

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 25-year-old Idrisu Musa in connection with the brutal murder of his elder brother, Muhammed Haruna, and his brother’s wife, Habiba Muhammed.

The double homicide, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, has sent shockwaves through the Asarara Village in the Kimba District of Jega Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the victims were attacked while they were asleep at approximately 5:15 a.m. on May 9. The suspect allegedly used a cutlass to inflict fatal injuries on the couple, both of whom succumbed to their wounds at the scene.

SP Usman revealed that investigators have already recovered “substantial and implicating evidence” linking Musa to the crime. Preliminary findings suggest a history of animosity, as the suspect had reportedly threatened the couple with a cutlass on several prior occasions before the fatal encounter.

In response to the severity of the crime, the Commissioner of Police for Kebbi State, CP Umar Hadejia, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive probe. The police leadership has assured the public and the grieving family that the matter will be pursued diligently to ensure that justice is served.

Residents of the community are urged to remain calm as the SCID deepens its investigation into the motives behind the attack. Musa remains in custody and is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
