Security professionals have lauded Governor Peter Mbah for transforming the Enugu State landscape, urging other Nigerian states to adopt his administration’s advanced Security infrastructure to curb crime nationwide.

ENUGU – Security personnel and experts from the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) have praised the Enugu State Government for its robust commitment to enhancing public safety, describing the state’s recent infrastructure upgrades as a blueprint that other states should emulate.

The commendation came during a courtesy visit by the Executive Intelligence Management Course 19 team to Governor Peter Mbah at the Government House in Enugu. The team, led by Olalekan Fashanu, is currently conducting a study tour on the implications of ethnic militia and resource competition on national stability.

During the visit, Dr. Olusola Opa-Ola, a staff member of the NISS, specifically highlighted the impact of the ultramodern Enugu State Command and Control Centre. He noted that the integration of AI-enabled cameras mounted across the state has created a potent infrastructure for crime prevention. According to Dr. Opa-Ola, the command and control system has proven effective in identifying vulnerabilities and nipping criminal activity in the bud before it escalates.

He expressed hope that state governments across the federation would replicate this model of Security investment. By adopting similar technological frameworks and demonstrating the necessary political will, Dr. Opa-Ola argued that states could significantly reduce the burden of insecurity on the Federal Government. He further emphasized that the challenges facing the nation require deep collaboration, noting that neither a single agency nor a single state can effectively tackle modern security threats in isolation.

Governor Mbah, in his response, contextualized these security achievements within his broader economic agenda. He explained that his administration’s vision to grow the state’s economy from 4.4 billion dollars to 30 billion dollars would be impossible without first addressing the severe security challenges he inherited. He commended security agencies for their partnership, which has been vital in restoring investor and resident confidence in the state’s capacity to protect lives and property.

Turning to the broader national conversation on resource management, Governor Mbah urged the visiting experts to examine the “tragedy of the commons” in Nigeria. He suggested that the country is abundantly blessed with resources, yet it struggles with optimization because of uncertainty regarding ownership and accountability.

He encouraged the team to use their research to investigate whether the national challenges stem from resource competition or a fundamental failure to properly structure the management of shared wealth. He concluded by challenging the NISS team to provide actionable insights from their studies that could help guide policy and foster better governance.
