The Yobe State Executive Council has approved N59.8 billion in new infrastructure Projects, signaling a transformative investment in roads, healthcare, and energy sectors to accelerate regional development.

DAMATURU – The Yobe State Executive Council (SEC) has ratified a sweeping N59.8 billion investment package aimed at accelerating critical infrastructure and essential services across the state. The move, announced on Monday, is set to fast-track the delivery of various high-priority development initiatives.

Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, confirmed the development following the council’s meeting in Damaturu, highlighting the administration’s commitment to modernization and service delivery.

The multi-billion naira allocation covers a broad spectrum of sectors, with the bulk of the funding directed toward transport and market infrastructure to spur economic activity.

  • Roads | 34.1 Billion | 59km Kaliyari–Bayamari & 53km Bayamari–Geidam roads.
  • Healthcare | 5.5 Billion | Upgrades to state health facilities.
  • Markets | 8.5 Billion | Jajimaji Modern Market, Machina & Buni Yadi works.
  • Energy | 5.3 Billion | Generators, 33KV lines, Solar-powered lighting.
  • Sports | 3.3 Billion | August 27 Stadium reconstruction.

A significant portion of the energy budget is earmarked for stabilizing power supply and enhancing security through lighting. The council approved the procurement of high-capacity generators for the Government House and key medical institutions, including the Specialist Hospital, Family Support Hospital, and Yobe State University Teaching Hospital.

Furthermore, the state will install 2,200 units of integrated solar-powered street lights across 11 local government headquarters, including Bara, Babbangida, Dapchi, Yunusari, Fika, Damagum, Nangere, Jakusko, Jajimaji, Machina, and Yusufari.

“This is a deliberate effort to ensure our communities are connected, secure, and commercially viable,” the administration noted, referencing the ongoing construction of the 33 KV line from Bukarti to Kanamma, which includes the provision of new transformer sub-stations.

The administration is also doubling down on the renovation of the August 27 Stadium in Damaturu, with N3.3 billion allocated for additional structural improvements. This upgrade is expected to provide a modern hub for youth engagement and regional sports events.

Combined with the construction of the Jajimaji Modern Market and external works at Machina and Buni Yadi, these Projects form the backbone of the state’s strategy to stimulate local commerce and provide residents with sustainable, long-term infrastructure.
