The Presidency has clarified that former ministers Wale Edun and Ahmed Dangiwa resigned from office voluntarily and were not removed from President Tinubu’s cabinet.

The Presidency on Wednesday clarified that former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, resigned from office and was not dismissed from the Federal Executive Council.

It also stated that former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, similarly submitted his resignation.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

According to the Presidency, Edun cited health reasons in his resignation letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Edun, who turned 70 on Monday, expressed appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve in the administration.

In his letter, he said it had been a pleasure and privilege to contribute to the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also stated that under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria had become stronger, more resilient, and more internationally respected.

The Presidency disclosed that Edun paid a valedictory visit to the President on Tuesday before the official announcement of his departure.

During the visit, he reportedly held a one-hour meeting with Tinubu and later left office to focus on private business interests.

Ahmed Dangiwa also thanked the President for the opportunity to serve as a member of the Federal Executive Council.

President Tinubu, according to the statement, appreciated both former ministers for their service and contributions to the administration’s reform agenda.

He wished them success in their future endeavours.

The President also charged the new Minister of Finance, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, to build on ongoing reforms and advance Nigeria’s fiscal and economic priorities with discipline, innovation, and renewed focus.

Tinubu is also expected to forward the nomination of Muttaqha Darma to the Senate for confirmation as the new Minister of Housing.

Edun previously served as Lagos State Commissioner for Finance between 1999 and 2004 during Tinubu’s tenure as governor.
