Forecast from NiMet shows a mix of rainy and sunny weather conditions across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday, with thunderstorms expected in several states nationwide.
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a three-day forecast predicting a combination of rainy and sunny weather conditions across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday, NiMet said northern Nigeria would experience sunny skies on Monday morning, with chances of thunderstorms and rainfall in some states.
The agency said moderate rains are expected over parts of Taraba and Adamawa States early in the day.
Later on Monday, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are likely in parts of Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba States.
For the North Central region, NiMet projected a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine during the morning.
It added that isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected over Niger, Kogi, Kwara and the Federal Capital Territory.
Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected in Plateau, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, Niger, Nasarawa and the FCT.
In the southern region, the forecast indicated cloudy conditions during the morning with chances of isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall over parts of Abia, Enugu, Edo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.
Evening rainfall and thunderstorms are also expected in parts of Oyo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia, Osun, Ekiti, Anambra, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Imo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom.
On Tuesday, NiMet predicted sunny skies across much of the northern region in the morning.
Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected later in Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba States.
The North Central zone is expected to remain cloudy with sunshine intervals, while afternoon or evening thunderstorms may affect Benue, the FCT, Kogi, Nasarawa and Plateau States.
For southern Nigeria, NiMet said cloudy weather is expected in the morning with light rains in parts of Enugu, Imo, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom.
Moderate rainfall may later occur in Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.
By Wednesday, NiMet projected sunny skies in the northern region during the morning, with chances of thunderstorms in Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Adamawa States.
Later rainfall is expected in Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa.
The North Central region is also expected to experience isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains in Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, Benue and the FCT.
For the South, NiMet said cloudy weather with sunshine intervals is expected in the morning, while thunderstorms with moderate rains may spread across the entire region later in the day.
NiMet advised residents to take precautions, warning that strong winds may precede thunderstorms.
The agency urged motorists to avoid driving under heavy rain and advised households to disconnect electrical appliances during storms.
Residents were also cautioned to stay away from tall trees due to the risk of falling branches.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning.
The agency further warned that temperatures would remain high, urging Nigerians to wear breathable clothing, stay hydrated and remain updated through official weather bulletins.
