Endorsement momentum grows in Enugu as the Enugu West Senatorial Zone presented a N100 million cheque for Governor Peter Mbah’s 2027 nomination form during a mega rally backing both Mbah and President Bola Tinubu.
AWGU, Enugu State – A major political endorsement unfolded on Saturday as the Enugu West Senatorial Zone presented a N100 million cheque to Governor Peter Mbah for his 2027 governorship nomination form.
The cheque was handed over during the Enugu West Senatorial Zone Mega Rally for the Endorsement of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah, held at the Awgu Council Area field.
Leaders, party stakeholders and supporters from across the zone gathered at the rally to publicly declare support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Enugu West Senatorial Zone comprises Aninri, Awgu, Oji-River, Ezeagu and Udi Local Government Areas.
Speaking at the event, Senator Osita Ngwu, who represents Enugu West Senatorial District, said the endorsement was a collective decision based on visible development and leadership performance.
“Today, we are not here by accident; we are here by conviction. We have seen leadership in action, we have seen results, and we have seen real progress,” he said.
Ngwu praised the Mbah administration for infrastructural development, improved security architecture and enhanced connectivity across Enugu State, adding that the governor had shown clear vision and strong execution.
He also said the zone’s backing for President Tinubu was rooted in confidence in his national reforms and commitment to economic stability.
Mr Anayo Onwuegbu, representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji-River Federal Constituency, commended the governor for inclusive governance and strategic appointments that had benefited Enugu West.
He assured that the zone would repay the administration’s efforts with overwhelming electoral support in 2027.
Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Uchenna Okolo, reaffirmed loyalty to Mbah’s administration, saying council areas in the district were united behind continuity.
Also speaking, APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Dr Ben Nwoye, said the endorsement reflected total alignment with the party’s leadership and candidates, urging voters to remain committed ahead of the elections.
Commissioner for Chieftaincy Matters, Mr Charles Egumgbe, described the rally as a defining moment in the political history of the zone and called for sustained progress through effective leadership.
Chief of Staff to the governor, Mr Victor Udeh, highlighted achievements in Enugu West, including classrooms, ICT centres, healthcare facilities and road infrastructure.
“We are going to vote APC from top to bottom,” he said.
Responding, Governor Mbah described the endorsement as historic and overwhelming, expressing gratitude to the people of the zone.
He said President Tinubu’s economic policies had improved macroeconomic indicators, strengthened foreign reserves and increased funding for sub-national governments, enabling large-scale development projects.
Mbah listed key initiatives of his administration to include Smart Green Schools, primary healthcare reforms, modern transport systems and the planned introduction of free school meals by September 2026.
He commended the people of Enugu West for preserving the legacy of their forebears through courage, unity and commitment to justice.
“You’ve shown that you cannot stand on the margins, and you cannot stand on the sidelines,” the governor said.
Mbah added that the political journey to the present moment began five years ago at the same venue, where communities first united behind a new vision for Enugu State.
