Kano Police reunite missing teenager initially identified as a Spanish national with his family after investigation revealed his true identity, urging parents to promptly report missing children.

The Kano State Police Command has reunited a missing teenager, initially identified as Alex Ansol from Spain, with his family after investigations revealed his true identity.

The command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Kano.

GMT News had earlier reported that police were searching for relatives of the 16-year-old boy, believed to be a Spanish national, who was found wandering in Dadin Kowa Village, Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State.

Kiyawa said further investigation showed that the teenager, who claimed to be Alex Ansol, was actually Yusuf Sabiu, 16.

According to him, the boy’s parents were later traced and identified as Saminu Yusuf, 44, from Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, and Habiba Adam, 35, from Plateau State.

He added that findings revealed the parents had been separated for more than 13 years.

“The command appreciates the media and social media users who promptly shared the initial report. Your swift circulation of the information played a key role in tracing the family and achieving this positive outcome,” he said.

The police urged parents and guardians to report missing persons immediately to the nearest police station, noting that timely reporting helps officers respond quickly and ensures safety.

The command also advised separated or divorced parents to maintain open communication regarding the welfare of their children.

“A stable support system, irrespective of family differences, helps protect children from wandering and exposure to danger,” the statement added.

Kiyawa said Sabiu was formally handed over to his parents at the Doguwa Police Division through the Divisional Police Officer.

He also provided emergency contact numbers and encouraged residents to use the NPF Rescue Me application for quick assistance.
