Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia condemns deadly attack in Gwer-East that left several dead, vows justice, and assures residents of strengthened security measures to restore peace across affected communities.

Governor Hyacinth Alia has condemned the deadly attack allegedly carried out by gunmen on Mbalom in Gwer-East Local Government Area of Benue State, describing the incident as barbaric and unacceptable.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Makurdi by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor reacted to the Saturday evening assault which left more than nine persons dead and several others injured.

Alia described the killings as “a direct affront to the collective peace and security of the state,” while expressing sympathy to the affected families and assuring them of government support during the difficult period.

The governor raised concerns over what he called a pattern of calculated and selective attacks in parts of the state, warning that such acts of terror would not be allowed to thrive in Benue.

He reiterated his administration’s resolve to tackle criminality and restore peace across affected communities, stressing that perpetrators would be apprehended and prosecuted.

Alia commended security agencies, particularly the police, for their prompt response and ongoing efforts, adding that operatives were already on the trail of those responsible for the attack.

He urged security forces to intensify operations to forestall further violence and restore lasting peace, while affirming that his administration remains committed to protecting lives and property.

The governor also disclosed that measures were being strengthened to improve intelligence gathering and enhance collaboration with stakeholders to prevent future attacks.

He called on residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, urging them to support security agencies with credible information.

Alia maintained that his government would not waver in its pursuit of peace, justice, and security for all citizens.
