President Bola Tinubu has announced a new welfare fund for Nigeria’s Armed Forces and pledged to donate all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the establishment of a dedicated welfare fund to support members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, wounded personnel, and families of fallen heroes.
The President made the announcement on Sunday as part of activities marking his 74th birthday, describing the initiative as a tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and service of military personnel.
Tinubu directed the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to create a special account for the fund, which will provide targeted support to injured service members, widows, widowers, and children of personnel who died in service.
As a personal commitment, the President pledged to contribute all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding for the initiative.
He also called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, and well-wishers to support the fund, noting that details of its operations would be released later.
According to Tinubu, the initiative reflects a national obligation to care for those who risk their lives for the country and the families who bear the burden of their sacrifice.
He emphasised that supporting members of the Armed Forces and their families should be seen as a duty rather than charity.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the welfare of military personnel and ensuring their service is matched with dignity, care and sustained support.
