A Magistrates’ Court in Jos on Monday jailed a 32-year-old trader, Abdulrahman Yusuf, to three years imprisonment for housebreaking and theft.
The Magistrate, Irene Pati, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him by the police. The court, however, gave him an option of a N100,000 fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Ijuptil Thiawur, told the court that the complainant, Mr Suleiman Abubakar, reported the matter at the ‘C’ Police Division in Jos on February 15.
Thiawur said the convict broke into the complainant’s residence and stole a plasma television set and a standing fan valued at N185,000.
The prosecutor added that during investigation, the convict confessed to the crime and admitted selling the items to one Hassan, who is currently at large. He said the offence contravenes the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code Law.
