One person died and two others were injured after a gas tanker explosion at Sangotedo in Lagos, LASEMA confirms.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that one person died while two others sustained injuries following a gas tanker explosion in Sangotedo.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the incident occurred at Ologuro bus stop when a tipper truck rammed into a gas tanker from behind, triggering a fire outbreak.
According to him, preliminary investigations indicated that overspeeding and reckless driving by the tipper truck driver caused the crash.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the driver of the tipper truck died from injuries sustained in the accident.
He added that two adult females suffered minor injuries and were treated by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS).
The explosion engulfed four roadside shops, causing significant property damage, while the contents of the tanker remained trapped in the vehicle.
Emergency responders successfully prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
The LASEMA Shark Team, working with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, brought the fire under control while recovery operations continued.
Authorities said further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
