ENUGU, Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026 – Nkanu West Roads receive major boost as Chairman John Chukwuma Ogbodo completes asphalt access routes to Smart Schools in Obe, Umueze, Obuno and Ndiagu Akpugo, aligning with Governor Peter Mbah’s infrastructure-driven rural transformation agenda.
Nkanu West Roads are witnessing accelerated development as the Executive Chairman, Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, rolls out asphalted access routes to schools across key rural communities, particularly the Smart Schools.
Several kilometres of paved roads in Obe, Umueze, Obuno and Ndiagu Akpugo have already been completed, while construction work continues in other areas. The intervention is targeted at improving accessibility to educational institutions and strengthening rural connectivity.
“The new roads will make a huge difference for students and teachers,” said Professor Chinedu Ibekwe, a local education advocate. “It reduces travel time, increases attendance, and makes quality education more accessible in rural communities.”
The road projects are designed to directly support students, teachers and residents who previously struggled with difficult terrain, especially during the rainy season. With improved access, school attendance is expected to increase, logistics around learning infrastructure will improve, and local economic activities around the schools will receive a boost.

Chairman Ogbodo noted that roads remain one of the most critical drivers of rural transformation, stressing that infrastructure is the gateway to education, commerce, healthcare delivery and overall community development.
“This initiative is a model for rural development,” said Dr. Ifeanyi Okonkwo, a community development consultant. “Providing practical infrastructure like paved roads directly impacts livelihoods and long-term economic growth.”
The initiative aligns with the infrastructure-focused governance model of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, whose administration has prioritised Smart Schools and strategic road construction as pillars of long-term economic growth in Enugu State. By extending asphalt roads to rural school environments, the Nkanu West Council is keying into the broader state development blueprint.
Observers say the steady expansion of Nkanu West Roads signals a deliberate effort to ensure that rural communities are not isolated from the state’s modernization agenda, reinforcing inclusivity and balanced development across wards.
