The Nigeria Police Force in Enugu State has detained 15 suspects and recovered a firearm following a targeted raid on criminal hot spots in Nkanu West Local Government Area.
The operation, carried out on Feb. 16 by operatives of the command’s Crack Tactical Squad, was based on credible intelligence, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe.
The raid focused on identified criminal hideouts in the Four Corner area of Ozalla Community, resulting in the arrest of nine males and six females.
Police said two polythene bags containing dried weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from the suspects. A further search of the area led to the discovery of a locally fabricated pistol loaded with one live cartridge.
Ndukwe stated that the suspects are currently undergoing screening. He added that individuals found not culpable would be released, while those linked to criminal activities would face investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Mamman Giwa, has directed supervising officers to sustain proactive crime-fighting measures across the state. He tasked operational and investigative units with identifying and dismantling criminal hideouts while ensuring offenders are brought to justice.
The police also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations aimed at curbing crime in Enugu State.
