An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the remand of a 60-year-old businessman, Smart Agazie, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre over alleged sexual assault involving his stepdaughter.
Chief Magistrate Omolara Kushanu declined to take the defendant’s plea and directed that he remain in custody pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The matter was adjourned until April 1.
Agazie, who resides in the Eleja area of Badagry, Lagos, is facing charges of sexual assault and rape.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, the alleged offences occurred at the defendant’s residence in 2022 and again in September 2025.
The prosecution told the court that the defendant allegedly assaulted his stepdaughter when she was 15 years old and again after she turned 18.
The court further heard that the victim had allegedly been threatened against disclosing the incidents but later reported the matter, leading to the defendant’s arrest.
The prosecutor said the alleged offences contravene Sections 137 and 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The case is expected to proceed upon receipt of legal advice from the DPP.
