The Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has commended Nigeria’s Super Eagles for their courageous performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, reaffirming that his $500,000 reward pledge remains intact.
Rabiu stated that the pledge would be honoured despite the Super Eagles’ semi-final exit following a dramatic 4–2 penalty shootout loss to host nation Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Wednesday.
The Super Eagles had battled through regulation time and extra time before succumbing on penalties in a tightly contested encounter that drew widespread praise for their resilience and discipline.
In a message shared on his official X handle, Rabiu applauded the Super Eagles for their unity, determination, and fighting spirit, describing their campaign as one that brought pride to Nigerians at home and abroad.
“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage on the pitch. Every Nigerian is proud of you,” he wrote.
He stressed that football results do not always reflect effort, noting that the team’s commitment and passion resonated deeply with the nation.
“Sometimes our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we desire, but the spirit and unity you displayed truly matter,” Rabiu said.
He confirmed that the $500,000 reward would still be paid in recognition of the players’ hard work, dedication, and the joy they brought to Nigerians throughout the tournament.
“I am going ahead with the $500,000 pledge in recognition of your commitment and the pride you inspired across the country,” he added.
Rabiu had initially announced the reward following Nigeria’s 2–0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-final stage of the competition.
Encouraging the team to remain focused, the BUA Chairman expressed confidence that the experience gained at the tournament would translate into future success.
“Keep your heads high. This experience will fuel greater victories. Nigeria believes in you,” he said.
