Enugu APC has launched its 2027 campaign in Nsukka, with Governor Peter Mbah highlighting infrastructure, education and healthcare projects as party leaders pledge victory for APC candidates.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has officially commenced its campaign for the 2027 general elections, with party leaders and stakeholders pledging to mobilise support for the re-election of Governor Peter Mbah and President Bola Tinubu.

The campaign flag-off, held at Nsukka Township Stadium on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, attracted party faithful, political office holders, traditional rulers, community leaders and supporters from across the state’s three senatorial districts.

Speakers at the event described the large turnout as a demonstration of the APC’s growing political strength in Enugu State, expressing confidence that the party would secure victory for its candidates in the forthcoming elections.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Mbah highlighted his administration’s achievements in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic development, including the revival of moribund government assets and completion of abandoned projects.

He urged residents to assess his administration based on its achievements and ongoing projects, while challenging opposition parties to present their alternatives to the electorate.

Reflecting on his journey to Nsukka ahead of the rally, Mbah said the ongoing dualisation of the Penoks-T-Junction-Ugwogo-Opi-Nsukka Road had significantly reduced travel time and improved road safety.

He recalled that motorists previously spent as much as 30 minutes or several hours navigating sections of the road, adding that the ongoing construction had substantially improved movement.

The governor expressed confidence that the contractor would complete the project before the end of 2026.

Mbah also said improved security along the route had helped residents overcome the fear of attacks that previously discouraged travel, particularly on Mondays.

He explained that his administration’s infrastructure programme was designed not only to construct roads but also to reconnect communities, expand economic opportunities and promote integration across the state.

The governor cited the 40-kilometre Owo-Ubahu-Amankanu-Umualor-Ikem dual carriageway, which connects to the Obollo-Afor Road, as another major intervention aimed at improving connectivity in northern Enugu State and providing access towards the North-Central region.

On education, Mbah said the Smart Green Schools initiative was designed to transform learning standards and prepare children for the demands of a modern economy.

He disclosed that the government had recruited more than 6,000 additional teachers, who were undergoing training at the state’s Centre for Experiential Learning and Innovation.

According to him, the initiative is aimed at moving the education system beyond memorisation and repetition towards critical thinking, creativity, innovation and problem-solving.

In the healthcare sector, the governor said his administration was constructing Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres across all 260 electoral wards, with each facility equipped with healthcare personnel and accommodation, including a two-bedroom residential unit.

On economic development, Mbah listed the reopening and operation of the Presidential Hotel, International Conference Centre, United Farm Products Limited, Songhai Enugu Integrated Farm and Sunrise Rice Flour Mill among the government’s interventions to stimulate economic activities and create employment opportunities.

He also described Enugu Air as a strategic investment beyond aviation, saying it would help attract tourism, investors and business opportunities to the state.

“Enugu Air represents more than an airline to us. It is our statement that we are open for business and we are open for tourism. We are open for people to come here and live,” he said.

Mbah further disclosed that the airline was expected to commence direct flights to London within weeks, with plans for additional international routes to the United States and China before the end of the first quarter of 2027.

Acknowledging that more work remained to be done, particularly in road infrastructure, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to its 10,000-kilometre road construction target.

“We are not measured by our words; we are measured by our results. We don’t say things that we don’t deliver on. What we commit to, we deliver,” he said.

The governor also disclosed that his administration had approved N32 billion for the payment of inherited pension and gratuity liabilities, adding that payments of outstanding gratuity arrears dating back to 2000 had commenced.

He attributed part of the state’s increased fiscal capacity to President Tinubu’s economic reforms, saying his administration had utilised the additional resources to invest in infrastructure, social services and employment generation.

Mbah also commended Tinubu for federal interventions in the South-East, including the establishment of the South East Development Commission, approval of regional gas pipeline projects, road infrastructure and appointments of people from the region to key national positions.

He specifically referenced the appointment of an indigene of Nsukka as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, describing it as the fulfilment of a longstanding aspiration of the university’s host community.

Earlier, Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai said the 2027 elections provided an opportunity for residents to sustain the development programmes of the current administration. He also accused opposition parties of spreading misinformation.

Other speakers at the rally included the Director-General of the Enugu APC Campaign Council, Chief Charlie Mbah; former Governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government Matters, Deacon Okey Ogbodo; and APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Dr. Ben Nwoye, who represented the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

Also in attendance were the Enugu State APC Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunwike; Senator Osita Ngwu, representing Enugu West Senatorial District; Senator Ikeje Asogwa of Enugu North Senatorial Zone; and the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, SAN.

Others included the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia; Member representing Nkanu West/Nkanu East Federal Constituency, Nnolim Nnaji; Member representing Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency; South-East Zonal Woman Leader of the APC, Dr. Oby Ajih; Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Uche Ugwu; and Nsukka Local Government Area Chairman, Engr. Jude Asogwa.

The party leaders and stakeholders expressed confidence in the performance of the Tinubu and Mbah administrations, pledging their support for APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

With the official flag-off, the Enugu State APC said it would commence a statewide campaign tour, taking its message to communities across the state’s 17 Local Government Areas.
