First Lady Oluremi Tinubu empowers 5,000 women across the South-East with business equipment, saying President Tinubu’s economic reforms are positioning Nigeria for prosperity.
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has empowered 5,000 women across the South-East geopolitical zone with business equipment, expressing optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms are gradually positioning Nigeria for prosperity.
Mrs Tinubu made this known on Saturday during the South-East flag-off of the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Mobilisation Directorate and Presidential Women Campaign Council at Okpara Square, Enugu.
The rally and empowerment programme were organised as part of the party’s grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a focus on securing support for the re-election of President Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
The beneficiaries received sewing machines, popcorn machines and grinding machines to support their businesses and improve their economic independence.
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady said the difficult phase of the Federal Government’s economic reforms was gradually giving way to prosperity, urging Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of the administration.
She assured citizens that the sacrifices associated with the reforms would eventually produce positive results and create a better future for generations to come.
“We are carrying out reforms that will bring prosperity to our children. Don’t let anybody deceive you. The difficult work is over. We are now stepping into prosperity,” she said.
Mrs Tinubu described the empowerment programme as evidence of the APC-led administration’s commitment to improving the living conditions of Nigerians, particularly women and vulnerable groups.
She maintained that the government was focused on translating its promises into practical interventions that would positively affect citizens.
“Have you ever seen people carrying out empowerment programmes while campaigning? That is what you are witnessing today. You are now seeing what the APC government is all about. We don’t just talk; we act.
“We are not a government that talks without doing anything. We talk and we deliver,” she said.
The First Lady also appreciated the people of the South-East for their support and goodwill towards her since the beginning of her husband’s administration.
She specifically acknowledged the four traditional titles conferred on her by communities in the region, describing the honours as expressions of their affection and acceptance.
Mrs Tinubu assured women that her empowerment initiatives would continue, particularly those designed to promote financial independence, entrepreneurship and economic inclusion.
She further announced plans to extend the interventions to persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups in December.
According to her, 250 persons with disabilities would receive financial support on December 3, commemorated globally as International Day of Persons with Disabilities, with each beneficiary receiving N200,000 to establish or support a business.
She added that another 250 beneficiaries would be empowered on December 17, while the broader initiative would target 750 people across the senatorial districts in Enugu State.
“We believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to engage in meaningful economic activities and become financially independent,” she said.
The First Lady also challenged APC candidates seeking elective positions in 2027 to introduce programmes that would improve the welfare of women, youths and elderly citizens.
She said the party would intensify its grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of the elections, urging women to support APC candidates across all levels of government, including the presidency, governorship, National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly.
“We are going to vote for APC from top to bottom,” she declared.
Earlier, the Wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, commended the First Lady for her commitment to improving the welfare of women, children and vulnerable families through the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Speaking on behalf of the wives of South-East governors, Mbah appreciated Mrs Tinubu for attending the event and extending her empowerment efforts to women in the region.
She also praised President Tinubu for implementing programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda, which she said were aimed at improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
In her remarks, the APC National Women Leader, Dr Mary Idele, said women across the country were mobilising to secure victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.
Idele said the Women Mobilisation Directorate was committed to taking the APC’s message to communities and grassroots supporters across the country.
She described the South-East rally as a demonstration of APC women’s determination to work towards President Tinubu’s re-election, urging members to remain united and actively participate in the party’s political activities ahead of the polls.
