ADC vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi has urged party members to end disputes over primaries and focus on winning the 2027 elections, stressing unity, persistence and commitment.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has urged party members to put disagreements over primaries behind them and focus on the task of winning the 2027 general elections.

Amaechi made the appeal on Friday in Abuja during the inauguration of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), calling on members to unite and work towards the party’s electoral objectives.

“If we are still quarrelling about the party’s primary, it is over. We have to win elections,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor urged campaign council members to recognise the responsibility before them, noting that success would require determination, unity and the willingness to overcome challenges.

He also cautioned against assuming that incumbent governments could not be removed from power.

“Incumbent governments often make the mistake of believing they are invincible and cannot be removed,” Amaechi said.

The ADC candidate drew on his experiences during earlier political campaigns under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recounting incidents in which he alleged that security officials obstructed his movements.

Amaechi said he was once stopped at Akure Airport and advised by a military officer to leave the area because his safety could not be guaranteed.

He also recalled a separate incident at the airport when he said he was prevented from flying, adding that the intervention of political leaders helped resolve the situation.

According to him, such experiences demonstrated the difficulties opposition politicians could encounter during election campaigns.

He urged ADC members to draw lessons from previous political struggles and remain courageous, persistent and prepared for unexpected obstacles.

Amaechi said the campaign council must remain focused on its responsibilities and work collectively towards the party’s objectives in the forthcoming elections.

The inauguration of the council marks a step in the ADC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the body expected to coordinate campaign activities and mobilise party structures across the country.
