State House Permanent Secretary Temitope Peter Fashedemi has urged staff to embrace professionalism, innovation, empathy and personal responsibility to improve service delivery and customer satisfaction.

The Permanent Secretary, State House, Temitope Peter Fashedemi, has urged staff to demonstrate professionalism, responsiveness, efficiency and empathy while seeking innovative ways to improve service delivery.

Fashedemi also called on officers to make customer satisfaction a priority and develop a culture of taking ownership of their responsibilities.

The Permanent Secretary, who was represented by the Director of Administration, Idris Abdulkadir, made the call in Abuja on Wednesday during the State House Ministerial SERVICOM Unit’s commemoration of the 2026 Customer Service Week.

Fashedemi said the annual celebration provided an opportunity to reflect on service quality, recognise excellence and renew the institution’s commitment to delivering services beyond expectations.

He said the emphasis was particularly important to the State House because of its strategic responsibility to provide seamless and efficient support to the Presidency.

“I therefore call on officers to demonstrate professionalism, responsiveness, efficiency, empathy and ownership while continuously seeking better ways of performing their duties,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary said service delivery should be measured by meaningful and measurable results rather than simply completing assignments or routine tasks.

He identified rising public expectations, resource constraints, technological changes, and increasing demands for transparency and accountability as some of the challenges facing the public service.

Fashedemi therefore urged staff to strengthen collaboration, optimise available resources and embrace innovation in improving service delivery processes.

He said officers should take personal responsibility for improving processes, listening to those they serve and ensuring their work contributes meaningfully to the effectiveness of the Presidency.

“Service excellence should not be regarded as a one-week event, but as a continuous culture for State House, recognising that this is the highest office in the nation,” he said.

The State House Ministerial SERVICOM Unit Nodal Officer, Tayo Fasipe, said Customer Service Week was a global event designed to recognise the value of customers in business and governance.

Fasipe said the 2026 theme, “The Extra Mile,” encouraged staff to make additional efforts to improve service delivery, while the State House had adopted the complementary theme, “From Service to Impact.”

He urged officers to consistently go the extra mile in ensuring customer satisfaction.

In her goodwill message, the Acting National Coordinator of SERVICOM, Helen Lawal, represented by the Head of Operations, Ngozi Akinbodewa, said the celebration was aimed at recognising exceptional service, boosting staff morale, encouraging exemplary conduct and reinforcing service standards.

Lawal said “The Extra Mile” was defined by qualities including excellence, integrity, accountability, efficiency, timeliness and empathy, all aimed at promoting citizen satisfaction and dignity.

As part of the celebration, the SERVICOM team had earlier visited the State House Medical Centre and its Presidential Wing to examine how the theme could be applied to healthcare service delivery.

The team was taken round the facilities by the Chief Medical Director, Dr Victoria Ogala-Akogwu, who said the theme resonated with medical personnel because of their commitment to providing patients with quality care and humane attention.

She assured the team that the centre would continue to go the extra mile in maintaining high service standards.

Participants at the event observed a minute’s silence in honour of victims of the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Ogun State on Monday.

The State House has consistently emphasised professionalism, efficiency and measurable performance as part of its broader public-service reform efforts. Fashedemi, who has served as Permanent Secretary of the State House since 2019, has previously urged staff to uphold professionalism and efficient service delivery.
