Ebonyi Governor Francis Nwifuru swears in 1,720 aides and presents staff of office to three traditional rulers during the state’s 30th anniversary.
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has sworn in 1,710 Executive Assistants and 10 Special Advisers as part of efforts to strengthen his administration.
Nwifuru performed the ceremony on Wednesday at the Abakaliki Township Stadium during activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary and the 30th anniversary of Ebonyi State.
The 1,720 appointees comprise 1,710 Executive Assistants and 10 former local government chairmen appointed as Special Advisers.
The governor also presented staff of office to three traditional rulers from Afikpo, Edda and Ishielu Local Government Areas of the state.
The ceremony formed part of activities marking the state’s three decades of existence and Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration.
Speaking at the event, Nwifuru described the creation of Ebonyi State in 1996 as the result of the aspirations, sacrifices and determination of its founding fathers and mothers.
He said the anniversary provided an opportunity for residents to reflect on the state’s journey and consider the future they were preparing for succeeding generations.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education, human capital development, infrastructure and economic opportunities, describing them as central to its development agenda.
He said his government had continued to invest in roads, bridges, healthcare facilities, education, agriculture and security since assuming office in 2023.
Nwifuru also highlighted projects undertaken by his administration, including the construction of model classrooms, postgraduate scholarship opportunities and the development of new universities.
On infrastructure, the governor said his administration had completed more than 1,000 kilometres of roads across the state’s 13 local government areas, alongside an urban renewal programme in Abakaliki.
He added that work was progressing on the Vanco flyover and tunnel, while investments in healthcare and education remained priorities.
The governor said the appointment of the new aides and the recognition of traditional rulers formed part of his administration’s efforts to strengthen governance and promote development across the state.
He urged the new appointees to demonstrate commitment to public service and contribute to the implementation of his administration’s development agenda.
Nwifuru also emphasised the importance of building public trust and accountability, saying governance should focus on meeting the needs of Ebonyi residents.
The ceremony was attended by government officials, traditional rulers and other dignitaries.
