The record was achieved during a screening of the film in Lagos on September 26, 2026, according to a State House press release issued on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Osikoya, of Switch Visual Production, and Awolowo, of Rixel Studios, received presidential recognition for their achievement, which Tinubu described as evidence of the talent and creativity driving Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
The President commended the filmmakers for their creativity, enterprise and ambition, noting that their accomplishment highlights the growing potential of Nigeria’s creative economy.
According to the statement, Tinubu said Nigeria’s creative industries were contributing to business development, job creation and access to international markets for local talent.
He also highlighted the role of film, music, fashion and art in promoting Nigerian culture and stories to audiences around the world.
President Tinubu said the achievement of Black Market demonstrated what Nigerian creatives could accomplish when creativity was combined with enterprise and the capacity to operate on a large scale.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating more opportunities for young Nigerians to build sustainable livelihoods and globally competitive businesses through their talents.
He also congratulated everyone involved in the production and screening of Black Market, wishing the filmmakers and their team greater success.
