The Enugu LG Election has produced John Chukwuma Ogbodo of the APC as winner of the Nkanu West chairmanship contest with 96,828 votes, while all 14 APC councillorship candidates also emerged winners in their wards.
ENUGU — BREAKING: The Enugu LG Election is producing results across the state’s 17 Local Government Areas, with John Chukwuma Ogbodo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerging winner of the Nkanu West chairmanship contest with 96,828 votes.
The result was announced by the Returning Officer, Festus Amuche Ezugwu, Esq., at the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) office in Nkanu West following the collation of results from the various wards.
According to the declaration, Ogbodo of the APC polled 96,828 votes to win the chairmanship election. Chukwudi Tochukwu Kenneth of the All Peoples Party (APP) polled 20 votes, while Onovo Uchenna of the BOOT Party recorded 30 votes.
The collation also produced victories for all 14 APC councillorship candidates in Nkanu West, with the candidates declared winners in their respective wards.
The electoral exercise in Nkanu West was coordinated by the Electoral Officer, Nnamdi Okereke, and recorded a good turnout of voters. The exercise was also generally peaceful across the Local Government Area.
Speaking to newsmen after the declaration, the Chairman-elect, John Chukwuma Ogbodo, thanked the people of Nkanu West for renewing their confidence in him.
“Thank you for your confidence in me by renewing my mandate. I want to assure you that I will do more to ensure that you feel more positive impact of government,” Ogbodo said.
He also expressed appreciation to Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, for his leadership, policy direction and support, which, he said, provided an enabling environment for the achievements recorded by his administration during its first tenure.
Ogbodo pledged to redouble his efforts in his second tenure, assuring the people of Nkanu West that his administration would remain focused on delivering greater development and ensuring that residents experience more positive impact from government.
“I cannot appreciate His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, enough for his leadership direction, quality governance and support. These have provided the impetus and enabling environment for us to achieve what we did at the local government during our first tenure,” he said.
Also speaking, the Rector of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Prof. Gozie Ogbodo, thanked Governor Mbah and the people of Nkanu West for their support towards the re-election of John Chukwuma Ogbodo.
He congratulated the Chairman-elect and the people of the Local Government Area on the outcome of the election.
The Nkanu West result is among the results being declared following Saturday’s Enugu State Local Government Council election, in which chairmen are being elected across the state’s 17 LGAs alongside councillors for the 260 wards.
