By-elections across Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta have produced five winners, with APC securing four seats and APM taking one as President Tinubu congratulates the successful candidates.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the winners of the legislative by-elections conducted across Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) won four of the five seats contested, while the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) secured the remaining seat in Bauchi State. The elections comprised one federal constituency and four State House of Assembly constituencies.
The successful APC candidates are Kallamu MaiJama’a, who won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency seat in Gombe State; Husseini Datti, who emerged victorious in the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State; Okolosi Ator, who won the Udu State Constituency seat in Delta State; and Yakubu Ali, who won the Disina State Constituency in Bauchi State.
Adamu Yakubu of the APM won the Sakwa State Constituency seat in Bauchi State.
In a statement issued by the State House, President Tinubu said the results reflected what he described as continued grassroots support for the APC and his administration’s reform programme.
“I am encouraged by the support Nigerians at the grassroots continue to show for our party and for the difficult but necessary reforms our administration has implemented over the past three years,” the President said.
He urged the newly elected lawmakers to justify the confidence placed in them by their constituents through diligent and effective representation.
President Tinubu also called on the unsuccessful candidates to accept the election outcomes in good faith and continue contributing to Nigeria’s democratic process.
He commended voters and security agencies for maintaining peace and order during the elections, while also applauding the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting the polls.
The President urged INEC to build on the lessons from the by-elections and address identified shortcomings ahead of future elections.
According to INEC’s current election calendar, the next nationwide presidential and House of Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and participating State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
