Adamawa Police have rescued a missing 12-year-old girl and arrested a 20-year-old woman suspected of abducting her after a swift search operation in Guyuk.
The Adamawa State Police Command has rescued a 12-year-old girl, Mercy Kefas, who was reported missing in Guyuk Local Government Area, and arrested a 20-year-old woman suspected of abducting her.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued in Yola on Saturday.
Nguroje said the girl’s mother, Mrs Mary Felix of Birsinsin village in Guyuk LGA, reported her disappearance at the Guyuk Divisional Police Headquarters on September 18, 2026.
According to the police, the child was later sighted in the company of an unidentified woman heading towards the Balanga-Talasse axis.
Following the report, the command said it immediately commenced a coordinated search operation and shared information with neighbouring communities and other police formations.
The operation led to the rescue of Mercy and the arrest of the suspect around the Talasse border area. The suspect was identified as Jamila Yusuf, 20, of Lafiya village in Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The police said Yusuf remains in custody, while the rescued girl has been reunited with her family.
Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case and conduct further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s disappearance and the suspect’s alleged involvement.
The command assured residents that it would continue to work with communities to prevent child abduction and other crimes.
It also urged parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report missing children or suspicious movements to the nearest police formation.
The commissioner commended the officers involved in the operation for their prompt response and professionalism.
