Shettima has received glowing tributes from President Bola Tinubu as the Vice President marks his 60th birthday, with the President praising his loyalty, patriotism and commitment to Nigeria.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Vice President Kashim Shettima on his 60th birthday, describing him as a trusted partner, loyal ally and patriot whose life has been defined by service, commitment and sacrifice.

In a personal congratulatory message released by the Presidency, Tinubu celebrated Shettima’s contributions to Borno State and Nigeria, praising his years of public service and unwavering commitment to national progress and unity.

The Vice President, born on September 2, 1966, marked his 60th birthday on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Tinubu said the milestone provided an opportunity to celebrate Shettima’s distinguished career, which spans the banking sector and several years of public service.

The President noted that Shettima served as Governor of Borno State before becoming Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, commending his courage, diligence, compassion and commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.

“Kashim is not just a trusted ally or a valued colleague, but also a patriot whose life has been defined by service, commitment and sacrifice for worthy causes,” Tinubu said.

The President particularly praised Shettima’s loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC), his support for the administration and his dedication to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Tinubu also highlighted the Vice President’s role as Chairman of the National Economic Council, saying Shettima had provided purposeful leadership in coordinating economic policies and strengthening collaboration between the Federal Government and subnational governments.

According to the President, Shettima’s respect for constitutional governance, democratic institutions, dialogue and consultation has contributed to strengthening good governance in the country.

Tinubu said the Vice President’s wisdom, loyalty and strong sense of duty had remained invaluable to his administration since they assumed office in 2023.

He thanked Shettima for his steadfast support and partnership, expressing confidence that both leaders would continue working together to deliver on the promises of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The President said the administration remained committed to making meaningful progress towards building a more prosperous Nigeria.

Tinubu also extended his congratulations to Shettima’s wife, Nana, his children, family members and political associates on the occasion of the Vice President’s Diamond Jubilee.

“On behalf of the Federal Government, I again congratulate Vice President Shettima on this milestone,” Tinubu said, praying for Allah’s continued guidance, protection, wisdom and good health for the Vice President.

Meanwhile, Shettima had earlier appealed to friends, associates and well-wishers to avoid elaborate public celebrations, congratulatory advertisements and expensive gifts in honour of his 60th birthday.

Instead, the Vice President urged Nigerians to channel their goodwill towards prayers for the country, the success of ongoing economic reforms, improved security, national unity, peace and prosperity.

Shettima said the milestone should serve as an opportunity for reflection, gratitude and renewed commitment to national service rather than personal celebration.

The birthday tribute highlights the close working relationship between President Tinubu and his deputy as the administration continues to pursue its economic and governance agenda.

At 60, Shettima’s journey from banking to public service, including his tenure as a two-term Governor of Borno State and his current role as Vice President, remains central to the story of his decades-long career in national development.
