Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has made a bold cabinet shake-up, swearing in three new commissioners and a special adviser while reallocating portfolios to strengthen governance and service delivery.

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has reshuffled his cabinet and inaugurated three new commissioners and a special adviser as part of efforts to strengthen the administration and improve service delivery across the state.

The new appointees took the oath of office on Thursday night at the Government House in Jos, while the governor announced the new ministerial portfolios on Friday.

The new commissioners are Prof. Gloria Samuel Kanari, Major-General Bala Samuel (rtd.), Prince Miaphen and Ishaku Maren. Recent reports, however, identify Bala Samuel as the special adviser among the four new appointees, making the latest appointments three commissioners and one special adviser.

Kanari and Bala Samuel are from Bassa Local Government Area, while Miaphen and Maren are from Quan’pan and Bokkos local government areas respectively.

Under the new arrangement, Kanari takes charge of the Ministry of Education, while Miaphen is assigned the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development. Maren will oversee the Ministry of Budget and Planning.

The reshuffle also affects several serving commissioners.

Peter Nyam-Gai, formerly Commissioner for Lands and Survey, has been moved to the Ministry of Agriculture, while Musa Ashoms, who previously handled Youth and Sports Development, will now oversee Commerce and Industry.

Joshua Ubandoma, formerly Commissioner for Works, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Environment.

Similarly, Kachollom Gang, formerly associated with the education portfolio, will now head the newly created Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

Samson Bugama has moved from Agriculture to head the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, while Peter Gwom will take charge of Lands and Survey.

Some commissioners retained their existing portfolios. They include Davou Gyang, who remains in charge of Transport; Caroline Pangiang Darfur, who retains Women Affairs; Joyce Ramnap, who remains Commissioner for Information; and Bashir Lawandi, who continues to oversee Water Resources and Energy Development.

Philemon Dafi also retains his position as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

Speaking after the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Mutfwang charged the new appointees and other members of the State Executive Council to approach their responsibilities with dedication and deliver measurable value to the people of Plateau State.

The governor said competence and the capacity to add value were central considerations in making the appointments.

The cabinet changes come as Mutfwang’s administration seeks to strengthen its governance structure and align ministries with its development priorities.

The governor also directed the newly appointed officials to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government and residents of Plateau State through effective service delivery, accountability and commitment to duty.

The latest appointments further expand Mutfwang’s ongoing efforts to reorganise his administration as the government responds to the state’s development and security challenges.
