Fraud allegations have landed a 44-year-old Lagos property agent, Olamilekan Ogunseye, before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court over an alleged ₦1.5 million rent transaction.
A 44-year-old property agent, Olamilekan Ogunseye, on Tuesday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over an alleged ₦1.5 million fraud involving a self-contained apartment.
Ogunseye is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Simon Njue, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on January 27 at about 11:30 a.m. in the Oyewole area of Dopemu, Lagos.
According to Njue, Ogunseye allegedly collected ₦1.5 million from the complainant, Mrs Blessing Zuokemefa, as payment for a self-contained room apartment but allegedly failed to provide the accommodation.
The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant converted the money to his personal use.
“All efforts made by the complainant to get a refund or the rented apartment proved abortive,” Njue told the court.
The prosecution said the alleged offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
According to the provisions cited in court, Section 287 provides a punishment of up to three years’ imprisonment for stealing, while Section 314 provides for up to 15 years’ imprisonment for fraud.
Following the defendant’s plea, Magistrate F.R. Ogunkoyode granted Ogunseye bail in the sum of ₦500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
The court adjourned the case until September 9, 2026, for mention. The allegations against Ogunseye remain unproven until determined by the court.
