The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the credentials and nomination documents submitted by presidential candidates for the 2027 election, allowing Nigerians to scrutinize their qualifications in line with the Electoral Act.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the personal particulars and supporting credentials of presidential candidates contesting the January 16, 2027 presidential election, in compliance with the Electoral Act and its revised election timetable.
The publication marks the commencement of the statutory period for public scrutiny under the INEC 2027 Election process, with the candidates’ completed EC9 forms and accompanying documents displayed at INEC offices across the country.
Among those whose credentials have been published are President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Gregory Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as other presidential candidates and their respective running mates.
The documents made available by the electoral commission contain each candidate’s personal particulars, educational qualifications, employment history, occupation, sworn affidavits and other supporting certificates submitted during the nomination process.
INEC said the publication is in line with the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election, providing Nigerians with the opportunity to examine the information supplied by candidates before the election.
The publication also activates the legal window during which any individual with credible evidence may challenge the authenticity of a candidate’s declarations in court if they believe any information contained in the submitted documents is false.
Under Section 33 of the Electoral Act, any person who has reasonable grounds to believe that a candidate’s affidavit or other documents submitted to INEC contain false information may institute legal proceedings against the candidate.
The release of the nomination documents is a routine legal requirement designed to promote transparency, accountability and public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
