The Osun State chapter of IPAC has rejected the caretaker committee constituted by the national leadership, insisting on the immediate conduct of a free, fair and inclusive election to produce new state officials.
The Osun State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has rejected the caretaker committee constituted by the council’s national leadership, demanding the immediate conduct of a fresh election to choose new state executives.
The position was announced on Saturday by member political parties, who accused the national body of imposing a caretaker committee without consulting stakeholders following the expiration of the tenure of the previous executive in February.
Speaking on behalf of the council, the Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Mr. Tosin Odeyemi, said the IPAC National Secretariat failed to organise an election after the tenure of the former executives ended.
According to Odeyemi, an election initially scheduled for March 14 could not hold because the committee responsible for conducting the exercise was absent.
He explained that the National Organising Secretary of IPAC, Chinyere Kalu, subsequently informed stakeholders that the election had been postponed and promised that a new date would be communicated.
“Since then, there has been no further communication from the IPAC National Secretariat. The state secretariat is not functioning, and there is effectively nowhere to direct official correspondence,” Odeyemi said.
He called for the immediate conduct of a transparent, credible and inclusive election to produce a new leadership for the council in Osun State.
Odeyemi also urged members of the IPAC National Executive Committee to resign, alleging that they had failed to meet the expectations of member political parties.
“In the interest of a transparent IPAC in Nigeria, we call for the resignation of members of the National Executive Committee.
“This is because they have displayed incompetence and insensitivity to the yearnings of the majority of council members, contrary to the duties they undertook when elected,” he said.
Reaffirming the position of member parties in the state, Odeyemi insisted that only a free, fair and inclusive election would be acceptable.
“We wish to state unequivocally that what we want in Osun is a free, fair and inclusive IPAC election. We reject the composition of this illegal caretaker committee, and we insist it cannot stand,” he stated.
