President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties.
Following the presidential directive, all outstanding legal, administrative, and property-related matters previously handled by the body will now be fully coordinated by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN.
The official statement confirming the dissolution noted that the Federal Government evaluated the operational history of the committee and determined that its activities had progressively expanded beyond its primary mandate.
This scope creep resulted in protracted administrative overlaps and widespread litigations across multiple judicial jurisdictions nationwide, rendering the continued existence of the body unjustifiable.
Established in the year 2000 during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the PIC was originally created to manage the privatization, lease, and outright sale of Federal Government landed assets under the national monetisation policy.
The committee’s initial executive structure was chaired by the Minister of Housing, alongside statutory representatives from the Ministries of Transportation, Justice, Health, Agriculture, and the Nigeria Police Force, with Professor P.T. Ahire serving as its pioneer Secretary.
With the presidential directive taking full effect, the Federal Government has explicitly ordered the erstwhile Secretary of the committee, B. S. Dutsin-Ma, to immediately cease acting on behalf of the panel or representing the government in any related asset transactions.
The Ministry of Justice under Attorney General Fagbemi will assume complete oversight to streamline ongoing legal disputes, audit state property records, and enforce strict regulatory compliance moving forward.
