Police in Kano have arrested a 25-year-old woman for allegedly severing her boyfriend’s genitals after reportedly discovering he intended to marry another woman. Investigations are ongoing.
KANO — The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman for allegedly attacking her boyfriend with a knife and severing his genitals after reportedly discovering that he intended to marry another woman.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa. According to the police, the suspect, who is from Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, allegedly carried out the attack at a hotel in Kano.
Haruna-Kiyawa said the command received a report from the management of Durbar Hotel, Badawa, after the incident occurred, prompting the immediate deployment of police operatives to the scene.
The police spokesperson said officers from the Badawa Police Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, arrested the suspect and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack.
The victim was rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment. According to the statement, investigations into the incident are ongoing.
In a separate development, the command also confirmed the arrest of three suspects, including a husband, his wife and another man, over the alleged killing of Abubakar Auwal, 30.
Police said the victim was allegedly lured by two male suspects and others following allegations that he had been involved with the wife of one of the suspects.
Operatives attached to the Sheka Police Division responded to the report and found the victim unconscious after he had allegedly been brutally assaulted.
He was taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for treatment but was later confirmed dead by a doctor. His body has been deposited in the hospital mortuary for an autopsy, while investigations continue. The police said the three suspects in custody would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, strongly condemned both incidents and warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands.
He emphasised that the Nigeria Police Force is constitutionally empowered to investigate criminal allegations and ensure that suspects are prosecuted through due legal process.
The commissioner assured residents that the command would carry out thorough, transparent and professional investigations into both cases and prosecute anyone found culpable in accordance with the law.
