APC’s five-member Fact-Finding and Reconciliation Committee has pledged to resolve the leadership crisis in Anambra State through stakeholder consultations aimed at restoring unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
ENUGU — The All Progressives Congress (APC) Fact-Finding and Reconciliation Committee has pledged to resolve the leadership crisis affecting the party in Anambra State, assuring members that efforts are underway to restore unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The five-member committee, led by the APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Dr Benjamin Nwoye, gave the assurance during a visit to Enugu State Governor, Mr Peter Mbah, in Enugu on Monday.
According to Nwoye, the visit was to brief the governor and express appreciation for his support of the committee’s reconciliation mission in Anambra.
The APC has been embroiled in a leadership dispute in Anambra involving rival factions led by Mr Emma Anosike and Chief Ifeanyi Osegbo, both of whom lay claim to the party’s state leadership and control of its secretariat in Awka.
The crisis has also been fuelled by disputed party congresses and parallel court cases as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Nwoye said the committee considered it necessary to thank Governor Mbah for sponsoring the peace initiative.
“The courtesy visit stems from his acceptance to sponsor the mission of peace in Anambra State APC.
“When the committee was inaugurated, Governor Mbah was nominated to sponsor the peace mission, and he did,” Nwoye said.
Nwoye explained that although a court had removed Sen. Emma Anosike as the party’s state chairman and restrained him from acting in that capacity, the APC had appealed the judgment and secured a stay of execution.
He maintained that Anosike remains the recognised chairman of the party in Anambra pending the outcome of the legal process.
The committee chairman also dismissed reports that the APC’s immediate past governorship candidate, Mr Nicholas Ukachukwu, had left the party.
According to him, Ukachukwu remains a loyal member and is actively participating in the reconciliation process.
“He is actively leading the reconciliation efforts. Any claim that he has left the party is not true,” Nwoye said.
Nwoye disclosed that the committee had already met with party stakeholders in Abuja and would continue consultations in Awka with leaders and members across the state.
He said the reconciliation exercise would extend to youths, women, persons with disabilities and party leaders from all 326 wards across Anambra’s 21 local government areas.
According to him, the engagement is intended to reassure party members that the APC National Working Committee (NWC) remains committed to restoring unity within the state chapter.
“We want to tell them that the National Working Committee is with the party, that peace has returned, and that APC is united and ready to fight for every single vote and every elective position in Anambra State,” he said.
Commenting on the appointment of individuals who are not APC members into government positions, Nwoye described such decisions as part of nation-building and the constitutional prerogative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He stressed that the committee’s primary responsibility remains achieving lasting peace within the Anambra APC, adding that the party fully supports the President’s constitutional powers in making appointments.
