Troops of Operation HADIN KAI foiled an attempted terrorist infiltration in Borno, evacuated 21 female students to safety, and arrested a suspected cross-border kidnapper during coordinated security operations.
MAIDUGURI — Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have thwarted an attempted terrorist infiltration of a military base in Borno State and safely evacuated 21 female students following credible intelligence of a planned attack.
According to the latest operational reports made available to journalists on Monday, security forces also arrested a suspected cross-border kidnapper believed to be operating between Nigeria and Cameroon, while recording additional successes in Kogi and Kebbi states.
The report stated that troops of the 3 Battalion at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Logomani detected suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorists attempting to encircle their position through closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance.
The troops immediately engaged the insurgents, forcing them to retreat before they could execute the planned infiltration.
In a separate operation, troops of Sector 3 acted on intelligence indicating that seven suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorists carrying improvised explosive devices (IEDs) had been sighted near the Water Board Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Monguno, Borno State.
As a precautionary measure, the troops evacuated 21 female students staying nearby to the safety of Kinnasara Barracks.
During the evacuation, three of the students reportedly suffered seizures but were stabilised after receiving treatment at a hospital. Security around the area was subsequently reinforced to prevent any attack.
The report further disclosed that troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion, working alongside local hunters, engaged suspected terrorists at Surajo Village in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The terrorists fled the scene, abandoning three bicycles and two coolers, which were recovered by the troops.
In Adamawa State, troops of the 247 Reconnaissance Battalion, supported by local hunters, arrested a suspected kidnapper at Gaya in Mubi South Local Government Area.
According to the report, the suspect confessed to being a member of a kidnapping syndicate operating from the Solere Forest in Cameroon and crossing into Nigeria to carry out abductions before returning across the border.
Elsewhere, troops of Operation MESA, working with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, rescued a kidnap victim along the Koton Karfe–Okparake Road in Kogi State.
Three suspected terrorists were arrested during the operation, while security personnel recovered one Dane gun, one motorcycle, three mobile phones and ₦23,000. The rescued victim has since been reunited with family members.
In Kebbi State, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA responded to reports of terrorist activity along the Wasagu–Ayu Road in Wasagu Local Government Area.
The troops engaged the fleeing terrorists, forcing them to abandon two motorcycles, which were recovered during the operation.
The latest operations underscore the continued efforts of Nigerian security forces to disrupt terrorist activities, protect civilians and strengthen security across multiple theatres of operation.
