Killing of former Khana Local Government Chief Security Officer Letam Kine has sparked a police investigation, with authorities vowing to track down the gunmen behind the attack in Rivers State.
PORT HARCOURT — The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of Mr Letam Kine, the former Chief Security Officer of Khana Local Government Area, following an attack by unidentified gunmen in Bori, Rivers State.
Kine was reportedly shot dead along Polytechnic Road in Bori, Khana Local Government Area, at about 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, said the attackers fled the scene before security operatives arrived.
She disclosed that Kine’s body had been deposited in a mortuary, where it would remain pending an autopsy, while detectives commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
“The Rivers State Police Command has launched a full investigation to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Agabe said.
The police spokesperson urged the victim’s family to formally report the incident to the command to support ongoing investigations and ensure the prompt administration of justice.
She reaffirmed the command’s commitment to identifying, arresting and prosecuting everyone connected to the attack.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Chief Thomas Bariere, described the murder as a senseless act of violence that has no place in a peaceful and law-abiding society.
Bariere expressed concern that the latest killing occurred only weeks after the murder of Mr Clement Deegbara of Kpong Community, warning that the repeated attacks point to the activities of armed criminal groups determined to destabilise the area.
He called on security agencies to intensify operations across Khana Local Government Area and ensure that those responsible are swiftly apprehended and prosecuted.
The council chairman also extended his condolences to Kine’s family, praying for strength for them during the difficult period.
He urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts aimed at improving safety in the area.
Bariere reaffirmed that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority of his administration as authorities intensify efforts to restore peace and bring the perpetrators to justice.
