Justice Nkeonye Maha of the Federal High Court in Ibadan has sentenced 35-year-old Kazeem Akinde to four years in a correctional facility following his conviction for trafficking cannabis sativa and methamphetamine.
In a firm judicial decision targeted at suppressing narcotics distribution within Oyo State, Justice Nkeonye Maha of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has convicted and sentenced 35-year-old Kazeem Akinde to four years in a custodial center for dealing in illicit drugs.
Delivering the verdict on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Justice Maha held that the prosecution, led by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), successfully proved its case beyond reasonable doubt through undisputed physical evidence and sworn testimonies.
Handing down the sentence, the judge ordered that the four-year custodial term take effect from the date of the convict’s initial arrest. Justice Maha issued a stern warning that repeat drug offenses following his release would attract far severe statutory penalties under federal law.
Furthermore, the court issued an order mandating the Oyo State Command of the NDLEA to publicly destroy all illicit drug exhibits recovered from the convict, including narcotics seized during the sting operation.
Earlier during proceedings, NDLEA Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Daniel Otunla, informed the court that Akinde was apprehended on May 11 at the Omi Adio area of Ibadan after agency operatives acted on verified intelligence from concerned members of the public.
Search operations executed at the scene yielded a concealed bag containing 861 grams of Cannabis Sativa alongside 20 grams of Methamphetamine, a potent psychotropic substance. The prosecutor noted that Akinde’s actions violated Sections 11(c) and 19(a) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, leading to the court’s decisive judgment.
