Governor Bago disclosed the ambitious sports infrastructure initiative on Thursday, July 23, 2026, during an official courtesy visit by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, at the Government House in Minna.
The governor outlined that the proposed athletic complex will be integrated with state-of-the-art hospitality facilities, premium athlete accommodations, and modern auxiliary infrastructure designed to meet global sporting standards and elevate the state’s economic landscape.
Welcoming the executive delegation, Governor Bago expressed confidence that the landmark project would transform the sporting ecosystem across the state, provide a premier home ground for local talent, and open up commercial tourism pathways.
In his reaction, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau commended Governor Bago for his visionary leadership, noting that the initiative is strategically timed given Niger State’s close geographical proximity to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Gusau pledged the full technical backing and institutional support of the national football governing body to bring the project to fruition.
Highlighting the international potential of the proposed facility, the NFF chief assured the state government that upon completion and certification, the federation would slate official international fixtures for Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, at the new arena.
Gusau emphasized that hosting high-profile continental and global matches in Minna will project Niger State’s image onto the world stage, spur domestic economic activities, and create unprecedented engagement opportunities for young aspiring athletes across the North-Central region.
