Murder investigation has commenced after the Rivers State Police Command arrested a man accused of killing his lover following a domestic dispute in the Eneka area of the state.
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a man, Richard Emmanuel, over the alleged murder of his lover, Caroline Sunday, following a domestic dispute in the Eneka area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, confirmed the arrest while speaking with journalists on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.
According to Agabe, the suspect, believed to be in his 30s, allegedly attacked the victim after accusing her of infidelity.
She said the victim sustained multiple injuries during the incident and later died, adding that preliminary investigations indicate the couple had two children together.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the incident occurred on Saturday and that the suspect remains in police custody.
She added that the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
“Investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure justice for the victim,” Agabe said.
She assured residents that the command would carry out a thorough investigation while ensuring due process is followed.
An eyewitness familiar with the incident said the tragedy occurred on Abraham Street in Eneka Community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to the eyewitness, Emmanuel confronted Sunday over allegations that she was involved in a relationship with another man. The source claimed the victim denied the allegation, leading to an argument between the couple.
The eyewitness further alleged that during the confrontation, the suspect assaulted the woman, causing her to fall and sustain fatal injuries. Neighbours reportedly responded after hearing the victim’s cries and alerted officers from the Eneka Police Division.
The eyewitness added that police officers arrested the suspect at the scene and evacuated the victim before she was later confirmed dead at the hospital.
The Rivers State Police Command said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
