FRSC has explained why it will not participate in Saturday’s Edo State local government election, saying it was not invited by the relevant election stakeholders.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Edo Sector Command, has announced that it will not participate in Saturday’s local government election in the state, citing the absence of an official invitation from election stakeholders.

The Edo State Sector Commander of the corps, Mr Preye Bedford, disclosed this on Friday during an interview in Benin.

According to Bedford, the command was excluded from the election exercise because it did not receive any formal invitation to participate.

“My command is not involved. Well, we weren’t invited,” he said.

Speaking on how the corps would operate during the 12-hour movement restriction scheduled from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Bedford indicated that the command would suspend its routine operations for the period.

He explained that the FRSC would first monitor developments before deciding whether any traffic control measures would be necessary.

“We will only assess the situation before we know what to do,” he stated.

The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has cleared 12 political parties to participate in the local government election across the state’s 18 local government areas.

Authorities have also announced movement restrictions as part of measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process.
