One person has died while three others were rescued after a building under construction collapsed in Kano, with the Fire Service attributing the incident to the use of substandard building materials.

One person has been confirmed dead while three others were rescued after a building under construction collapsed on Sultan Road near Sazo Restaurant in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State. The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident on Friday, saying emergency responders were swiftly deployed to the scene following a distress call.

The Public Relations Officer of the service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the agency received the emergency report at about 10:14 a.m. from a resident, Musa Yau.

“We received a distress call at about 10:14 a.m. reporting that a building had collapsed, and our firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene at about 10:24 a.m.,” Abdullahi said.

According to him, three victims were rescued from the debris and taken to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Specialist Hospital for treatment, while one person was confirmed dead. He added that rescue operations were still ongoing as emergency personnel continued searching the site.

Abdullahi attributed the building collapse to the use of poor and substandard construction materials.

He urged engineers, contractors and property developers to adhere to approved building standards and use quality construction materials to prevent similar incidents.
