President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria Customs Service Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi on his unanimous re-election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation Council, describing it as a global endorsement of Nigeria’s customs reforms.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on his unanimous re-election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council during the organisation’s 147th and 148th Council Sessions in Brussels.

The President described the re-election as a historic endorsement of Adeniyi’s leadership and Nigeria’s growing influence in global customs administration.

Tinubu said his recent approval of Adeniyi’s tenure extension as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service was based on his conviction that the agency’s ongoing reform agenda should be sustained.

According to the President, the overwhelming support from the international customs community reflects Adeniyi’s success in consolidating reforms, strengthening institutional capacity, modernising customs administration and positioning the Nigeria Customs Service among the world’s leading customs institutions.

Tinubu noted that under Adeniyi’s leadership, the Service has recorded significant progress in revenue generation, trade facilitation, anti-smuggling operations, border management, stakeholder engagement and technology-driven reforms.

He particularly commended the deployment of B’Odogwu, Nigeria’s indigenous customs clearance platform, describing it as a major innovation that has simplified cargo clearance, reduced dependence on foreign systems, improved transparency and enhanced operational efficiency.

The President said the platform aligns with the Federal Government’s objective of building a more competitive and technology-driven economy.

Tinubu also praised the implementation of the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme, the expansion of non-intrusive cargo inspection technology, stronger inter-agency collaboration and sustained compliance with international customs standards.

“Adeniyi’s unanimous re-election is not only a personal honour but also a recognition of Nigeria’s growing influence in global customs administration,” the President said.

He added that Adeniyi’s tenure as Comptroller-General has been marked by bold initiatives that have strengthened border security, improved revenue generation, facilitated legitimate trade and modernised customs operations through homegrown innovations such as B’Odogwu.

Tinubu expressed confidence that Adeniyi’s second term as Chairperson of the WCO Council would deepen international cooperation, promote secure and efficient global trade and further enhance Nigeria’s reputation within the global customs community.

The President wished the Comptroller-General continued wisdom, strength and success as he undertakes his renewed international responsibilities while sustaining the ongoing transformation of the Nigeria Customs Service.
