President Bola Tinubu congratulates the Muslim Ummah on the dawn of the Islamic New Year, 1448AH, urging Nigerians to embrace sacrifice and patriotic citizenship.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his warm, heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and across the globe as they celebrate the arrival of the Islamic New Year, 1st Muharram 1448AH, which gracefully coincides with Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
In an official State House press release, the President emphasized that the dawn of a new Hijri calendar offers a sacred, reflective opportunity for all citizens to look inward, recharge their spiritual values, and recommit themselves to the urgent task of collective nation-building.
Reflecting deeply on the historical and spiritual essence of the Hijrah-the iconic, hardship-laden migration of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) from Mecca to Madina that serves as the foundation of the Islamic calendar-President Tinubu noted that its core principles are highly relevant to Nigeria’s current socioeconomic path.
He asserted that the timeless virtues of sacrifice, deliberate patience, institutional renewal, and unwavering faith in God’s supreme plan are the exact pillars needed to engineer a genuinely peaceful, just, and highly prosperous country.
“The lessons of the Hijrah, which include sacrifice, renewal, patience, and faith in Allah’s divine plan, remain central to building a peaceful, just, and prosperous nation. I urge all Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the ideals of good citizenship through acts of kindness, tolerance, and honesty.”- President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
As the country navigates a critical phase of structural and economic reforms under his administration, the Commander-in-Chief passionately admonished the Muslim faithful and the broader Nigerian populace to forcefully reject divisive sentiments and actively embrace the values of good citizenship.
He maintained that simple yet profound acts of everyday kindness, mutual religious tolerance, absolute honesty in private and public dealings, and a dedicated devotion to professional duties are non-negotiable contributions toward fortifying national security and driving sustainable development.
Rounding off his celebratory message, President Tinubu offered earnest prayers that the year 1448AH fills every home with divine blessings, peace, and abundance, while asking God to continuously guide the country’s leadership along the path of progressive transformation.
