The Ogun State Police Command has arrested seven suspects and recovered a firearm following coordinated, intelligence-driven operations across multiple divisions.
The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against crime with the arrest of seven suspects linked to alleged armed robbery, housebreaking, theft, conspiracy and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace in separate operations across the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday in Abeokuta, noting that the arrests followed coordinated intelligence-driven operations conducted by police operatives in the Sango-Ota, Owode-Egba and Agbado divisions.
According to Babaseyi, operatives attached to the Sango-Ota Division arrested three suspects identified as Pelumi Akintonde, 21, Mojeed Sanusi, 28, and Mubarak Lateef, 17, in connection with an alleged armed robbery incident in the Alasia community.
He explained that the suspects allegedly participated in an attack on a resident during which valuables were forcefully taken. During the operation, police recovered a locally fabricated cut-to-size pistol and an expended cartridge from the suspects.
The police spokesperson added that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest other members of the criminal gang who remain at large.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Owode-Egba Division arrested 22-year-old Damilare Makanjuola over an alleged housebreaking and theft incident in Ofada.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, linked the suspect to several reported burglary cases within Sun City Estate, Ofada, where cash, electrical appliances and other valuables were allegedly stolen from residents.
Babaseyi further disclosed that two additional suspects, Tijani Jubril, 28, and Ezra Modi, 22, were arrested for alleged conspiracy and stealing within Treasure Island Estate, Awo Village.
The suspects were reportedly intercepted while attempting to dispose of electrical appliances allegedly stolen from a residential property within the estate. Police investigations revealed that the property had been forcefully entered, while the stolen items were successfully recovered.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Agbado Division arrested Waris Adebesin, 22, for allegedly causing public disturbance and threatening violence around a secondary school environment.
The suspect was reportedly found in possession of a knife, and police said swift intervention by officers prevented a potential breakdown of law and order in the area.
Babaseyi stated that all seven suspects remain in police custody and are undergoing further investigation ahead of possible prosecution.
Commenting on the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and prompt response of the operatives involved.
The police commissioner also appreciated residents for providing timely and credible information that contributed to the success of the operations.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling criminal networks, combating violent crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Ogun State.
